Hi there, I’m Jami Boys and I’ve been sharing online since 2009 through my food and garden website, An Oregon Cottage. That’s a long time in internet years! When I first started the blog I shared all the things that are naturally a part of living a simple homemade life: decor, crafts, sewing, DIY, frugal living ideas, and travel, as well as food, preserving, and gardening.
After a few years we learned that Google’s algorithm didn’t like these generic “lifestyle blogs” and we needed to niche down to continue to be seen. So I focused on easy, real food with occasional gardening content that would work with my farm-to-table and preserving content. While I still tried to share some of the other areas of my real life in a monthly round-up on the site and my Saturday newsletter, I still wished (pretty much weekly!) that I had a positive place to share more of the creative aspects of simple living and what life at home actually looks like, week by week, season by season.
With the launch of Notes From The Farmhouse I’m thrilled to finally have a place again where I can share all the things: what’s bringing joy, what creative projects I’m doing, what I’m learning and letting go of - all within a calm and quiet space where you know exactly what you’re getting. Through these easy to open and read emails (with no ads!!) I hope to connect with you in a way that brings you joy and inspires you to make, stir, grow, and create.
If you’re new here, here’s a bit of background: I live in Western Oregon (garden zone 8b) and graduated from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) where I met my husband, Brian, who is my funny other half and has appeared in various videos with me as well as co-hosted our previous podcast. We have two young adult kids and one grandchild. We live on 3 acres in a 1900 farmhouse we renovated over the course of three years, DIY-ing most of it (after renovating two other homes). As well as cooking, I love to knit, crochet, read, walk, garden, and make things with a sewing machine. Over the years I’ve published a planner (The Flexible Planner), as well as various cookbooks including the softcover preserving set, Easy Water Bath Canning and Freezing Produce the Easy Way, which you can find on my shop here.
Thank you for being here - lets do simple homemade lives together!
